My Diet:

This is the diet of champions, my friends. Yesterday, for both lunch and dinner, I had these deliciously, fattening, salty, yet sweet foods. We went to the awesome dinner that is provided each night of the fair, but they ran out of food. : ( Which meant that we resorted to eating at a really, really good homecookin stand at the fair.

Since Michael and I went to the fair in the morning with my mom, I decided that we'd go ahead and eat at this stand. The prices are great and the french fries are the best around town. Obviously, I didn't know that this is where we'd be having our dinner, too.

It's a really good thing that I run, isn't it? Somehow, though, it still doesn't make this diet "okay", unfortunately.

We closed the fair down last night. Michael had a blast. Our dear friend, Mary, took Michael on any ride that he wanted to go on. She spoiled him rotten. And, Mark, tried to spoil him with more french fries; but Josh intervened.

There are still a few things left to accomplish at the fair, believe it or not. One, being the ice cream. Oh, the ice cream stand is really something to behold. They've got PEACH, MINT CHIP, MOOSE TRACKS, STRAWBERRY; you name it and they've got it! Somehow, we've escaped each day without a single cone. Two, being the bbq dinner that sells out every night. And, three, giving Granddad H. and Mango a big hug! We haven't seen them since we left for the beach.

My Fair Lady...Or, Fair Junky?

It's fair week, ladies and gentlemen! And, Katie is in her glory!

We took Michael B to the fair the first night to watch the beauty pageant. Michael enjoyed watching the "queens". Josh gave him a long, long, long spiel about the gender of beauty queens on the way home from the fair that night. Michael hasn't talked anymore about the queens, so maybe Josh's lecture settled itself in that spongy brain of M's. Time will tell, friends.

This morning, just before lunch, Michael and I decided to walk around at the fair and look at the animals. It seems that he's partial to sheep and is terrified of the steer barn. In Michael's defense, the steer are massive. We also enjoyed watching these two baby goats frolicking around a pen with with their mother. Michael had a hard time leaving that barn, in fact.

Next year, I think I'm going to let him work with a local family and show a dairy cow! Really, it's a calf...I don't want you to think that I'd toss him into the show barn with a seven foot dairy cow. That wouldn't happen...don't worry. But still, you're probably thinking, he'll only be THREE, Katie! Right? This is true, he'll still be very young; but I think it would be a great experience for him. Listening to directions, taking care of an animal, and the work ethic that comes with farming; are all very important lessons that I want the little sugar to learn. And, for those who are still a bit confused...I'd be with him every single step of the way...it would be just as much work for me, actually more for me.

It's a goal...for next summer or the following summer...And, it would give me another reason to be at the fair EVERY DAY of the week! : )

Don't let beauty pass you by.

How's this for image stabilization?~~~

Took these on our way home from a party this evening, with the car going 60 mph and the camera hanging out the window. Josh was a little nervous and was yapping in my ear. : ) And, for the record, I had pepsi and water at the party. ; ) And, I was the passenger, not the driver. : )

I love this view:

We're having a wonderful weekend. Michael had a BALL at the party this afternoon, playing with all of the children and moon bouncing!

They're definitely fair worthy, wouldn't you say?

My favorite: (I like the light on this one...)
More tomorrow, we're whooped this evening...

Pretty Days...

Yesterday Michael and I spent a good part of the early afternoon with my Grandparents. Michael spent an hour or so trying to catch butterflies. We had a glorious time, romping around the yard. My Grandfather especially enjoyed watching Michael from his deck.

I am so grateful that he was able to spend time with my Grandparents yesterday. He is especially in love with my Grandfather, which makes me a little teary-eyed at times.

The title of this montage is "A Pretty Day" because Michael told me *repeatedly* that it was a pretty day. And, boy was he right. It was a BEAUTIFUL day, one that I wouldn't mind re-living.

Not too often...

do you get to take a few shots of the sun setting IN the clouds...

I got real excited when the pictures of the sun set came out last evening on the digital. I kept saying to Josh, "LOOK! JOSH! Aren't these pictures AWESOME?!!?" He said, "Ummmm...yeah. I can LOOK WITH MY EYES out the window, though, Kate." Here I'm thinking that these just might be fair-worthy pictures, and all he's got for me is a Whoop-De-Doo attitude. I can't believe I didn't get that comment from him, instead of the "yeah, can see it myself, thank you very much" comment! (We laughed about it, of course...we like to pick on each other.)

So.... We're home! The flight was long. There were delays. Same old story, but with a little bit more sleep this time around.

It feels great to be home. The aftermath of a trip is always a bit exhausting, though, isn't it? I've got a million things to do; but instead I'm enjoying my coffee and petting our little dog who missed us terribly.

Duncan is trying to break into Michael's room this morning. He misses his playmate so much. Michael will be so happy to see him when he wakes.

(The photos DID take Michael's breath away, however... )
