And, the best part is...

“Libraries allow children to ask questions about the world and find the answers. And the wonderful thing is that once a child learns to use a library, the doors to learning are always open.”
--Laura Bush

Today I did something with Michael that I have wanted to do for awhile: story time at the library! I've heard so much about "story time" at the library, and I have been itching to go. This morning, I hustled us our the door in plenty of time to get to the library. In fact, we were there before the doors opened.

Since this is only the second time I have taken Michael to the library; I haven't figured out a system for looking at books with Michael or figuring out how many or which ones to check out. So, we picked out a couple books in the children's section and read one book at a time. I then showed Michael where to return the book. Then, he got to pick out another one! This worked well for about fifteen minutes, and before we knew it story time began.

The story teller, oh the story teller!, was FABULOUS! WoW-Wee! She made it so much fun! I really got into the stories, just because of her...her animation and voice were completely engaging. We did some reading, singing, and clapping, which Michael loved! He was so still throughout all three books! ( I can NEVER get him to sit through THREE books.) After story time, we became friends with another mother and her two year old son. How fun! They played cars together, while we chatted. And then, we went upstairs to the puppet show! The puppet show was a HUGE hit with Michael, as well.

This has been the sweetest morning. And, I'm so very thankful... : )

(Oh...and, to top things off...Michael checked out a Wiggles CD!! Yay??!!??)

....And, the best part is...it's ALL FREE.

These are the Good Times!

The summer is treating us quite well. My roommate from college came today for a visit with her little guy, who is cute as a button. Michael thrashed him around a little bit, you know...took the toys from the sweet clutches of an infant, shouted "MIIIINE!!", threw his body around without abandon. That old chestnut... I'm kidding, Michael and little E. got along well and seemed to enjoy one another's company, Michael did steal from him, however... My friend's son really sat back with amazement and took in the exuberant flurry of M's activities.

We went to the pool, but it was a quick visit. As in a 45 min visit, very short... Michael was just too tired, and I managed rub a little suntan lotion into his eyes. When we returned home, Michael was very irritable and cranky. As I was taking off his sopping wet bathing suit, he pointed to his crib and said, "RIGHT THERE, RIGHT THERE, RIGHT THERE, MOMMY!!!" He was begging for his nap. And then, when I plopped him into the crib, he said, "THANK YOU, MOMMY!" He went right to sleep. : )

After my girlfriend left, I took a nap myself. I'd like to blame the exhaustion on running, but, really, I think I'm just lazy... Life is so good.

I've Got a Connection!!

**** UPDATED VERSION*******

Well, my FIL would be so proud...I landed myself a connection here, so now the updates and posts will be easier AND there will be pics, as well. : )

So, we actually landed here in San Antonio on WEDNESDAY am, not Saturday. It is Thursday, right? It seems my brain is on vacation, as well as my body. The previous post was written as Michael was crawling on me and on Mombo's electric scooter.

Josh and I took Michael B out to a Mexican restaurant for lunch and then we went to a museum. This museum had a great dinosaur exhibit. Michael got scared and asked for his Mommy. The dinosaurs were, in truth, scary. Josh loved the exhibit, however, he's a huge dinosaur fan.

The museum also has a place for little ones, it's like a discovery museum. Michael ran around, and tried out the different experiments and whatnots.

As I was getting ready today, I thought back to our visits to SA without Michael--we used to go to this gym and spend a few hours working out, and then we'd go out to eat, do a little shopping, and then read at Mombo's house. Now, we have a huge list of seven things we MUST do before we go home. Josh and I are enjoying our second childhood. : )

Enjoy the photos...maybe I'll put together a montage of the museum this afternoon while Michael is napping!

Check it out....

Check out the "labels" feature of the blog.

If you click on the label at the bottom of the post, blogger will pull up all posts filed under this label.

As of Monday night, the label "mom's soapbox" has the most number of posts. Maybe I'll become a bit more creative with my labels as time goes on...

Anyway, check it out. It's cool.

The Latest Developing Story...

Last week I wrote about Michael and his incessant question, "WHHHHHY???"

Well. It seems I've figured the sugar plum out. (Just maybe...) I think that he wants (badly) to carry on a conversation with Josh and me. The question "why" helps him to engage in conversation, and it keeps us talking. I doubt that he really wants to know why salsa is hot and why peppers are used in salsa. Nor, do I think he really wants to know WHY(!?!!) I need to get to work, why I need to be on time, so on and so forth. He truly asks "why" after every sentence we say. I like to give him back a, "why do you think the salsa makers use peppers, Michael?" And, you know what his response is???? "WHY????"

Another development I've noticed-- when Michael colors with his "new crayons" (markers, very, very, very washable markers...) he tries to COLOR IN various things. For example, in the above picture you'll notice that he is trying to color in the HOOP and the BALL. Is he Josh's son, or what? He also really likes to color in the faces of the Sesame Street characters and the Wiggles. I have just begun to notice this change. It's very, very sweet. Kinda breaks my heart a little because he's growing by leaps and bounds DAILY, but it's very sweet nonetheless.

And, one more noteworthy piece of info..Michael has become quite bossy. (I went through this stage as a child, in fact, I don't think I've grown out of it--especially if you ask Josh...) The babysitter reports that Michael has been distributing "time-outs" left and right this week. He also let's you know when it's HIS turn. He doesn't let us pass him by, that's for sure.

How I adore this rascal...

(Also, I updated the profile, I'll continue working on it...but check it out.)
