It's Happening Already...

This evening we went out for dinner, to a good old family restaurant. Michael has become a picky eater in the past month or so, which is frustrating. We were furiously trying and trying to get him to try something else besides bread (his favorite). Josh offered him a bite of his macaroni. Michael said no and then told us that the macaroni was hot. Michael took one look at the macaroni and started to blow on the noodles, wave his arm, and say "hot, hot, hot." Josh had to convince him that the macaroni really was not hot. Michael didn't buy it though, he shook his head and said, "no, no, no."

The reason for the title, you might ask...Michael is OBSESSED with his food being hot. He blows on pretty much everything, but fruit and yogurt. And, if you even mention that the food is hot; he won't go near it, won't touch it, and certainly will not eat it. He also is very conscientious of objects that might be hot, like the fireplace or the stove. Being the awful mother that I am, on our walk to Granddad's yesterday, Michael was headed straight for a fire hydrant. Fire hydrants are disgusting, if you think about it; any and every dog that walks past one pees on it, at least once. In an effort to get Michael away from the hydrant, I told him that it was hot (it is a FIRE hydrant, fires are hot...right?) Josh gave me a look when I told Michael that it was hot.

For those of you who don't know...Michael's father obsesses over things himself too, especially locking doors and washing hands. So, this evening when Michael started his routine of blowing and waving at his food, Josh and I doubled over in laughter. We're really hoping that Michael doesn't start obsessing with locks, but it seems that he might have adapted this trait of his father's. We've noticed Michael trying to lock the door, or open the door with our keys lately. He's so much fun...
